It's not a joke to some people.

According to the BBC they found the Elvis thing on Paddy Power at 2000-1 at the time.

But does this qualify.

Another one I heard last night was the odds were better that Christmas would be the hottest day of the year in London. Don't remember the odds but it better than Leicester. Scientifically possible.

Leicester's achievement is indeed outstanding but pales into insignificance against the greatest sporting achievement of all time by none other than Mr Alan Mcknight who without a single shred of talent got paid to play as a goalkeeper in a top professional league.

I can't think of anything that matches a 5000/1 bunch of no-hopers winning the league in the current climate, where it was accepted that clubs no longer won the title but bought it.
The Prem was dead to me until this season
It's brilliant for football and there's no reason why we cant do the same.

Tex, I'll ask you like i asked everyone else who questioned it: show me a single event in sport that had longer odds and came in.

When anyone says Muhammed Ali to me I just cringe. He certainly wasn't the greatest boxer of all time.

What Leicester did was so unexpected it ranks highly among all other upsets.

The best I can say for matey who won a load of Squash matches is that he wouldn't be a Pointless answer, as at least one person knows who is he.

That was a serious suggestion the other day when it came to the greatest sporting upsets of all time.

Almost as absurd as South Africa, on home soil, as one of the pre-tournament favourites, winning the rugby World Cup in 2005 being one of the greatest sporting achievements ever.

I've just read the opening post properly, and the man has put a fucking one off heavyweight fight over a 38 game football season. Fucking hell.

FUCKING HELL.

Re: Greatest Sporting achievement of all time. Leicester City ?
It passes all over Forest, when you consider all the factors around both scenarios. There's only been 5 different teams that have won the Premier league since it's inception, it's much harder to win than the old league was, because of the financial make up. There's only 8 teams I think who have finished high enough to qualify for the Champions league.

It's the greatest sporting achievement ever, by some distance. Summed up by the fact that Alex V can't think of something even close to try and wind everyone up with.

Oh and they went on to win the World Series by sweeping the Cards

The Boston Red Sox were only 120 to 1 after being 0-3 down to the Yankees in the ALCS AND 4-3 down in the 9th inning, they came back to win the series and completely destroy the Babe Ruth curse

Elvis being found alive is 50,000-1 but I get your point.

I'd say as rule though that if you're comparing bets it's probably a good idea to completely disregard joke bets.

Have to say though, Leicester have some of weirdest, god forsakenly ugly fans I have ever had the misfortune to see.

Put me off my breakfast seeing them, truly horrific gargoyles.

Mid season bottom of the table to champions in 16 months, the greatest ever sporting achievement!

Odds don't necessarily reflect reality though.

Leicester winning was more likely than Elvis being alive, but not according to the bookies.

Ipswich winning the first division at the first time of asking was a bigger upset imho.

Bit before my time but would be astonished if it were anywhere near Leicester odds of 5000-1

If that's how you worded it I wouldn't have mentioned it, but it was more "I know" rather than "I think" ("greatest sporting achievement? Not at all") and if you're going to say that, I would have thought you could have come up with another candidate.
